Invest in U Launches to Provide Emergency Funding for Los Angeles Southwest Students
Los Angeles, California - During the COVID-19 pandemic, a group of women, led by Dr. Elynar Moreno, sat down to create a non-profit organization for Los Angeles Southwest College students most affected by the pandemic at this time. By visiting the Invest In U website, students are able to submit a student emergency relief fund application that will be reviewed and approved by a committee of LASC faculty, LASC alumni, and a in-house researcher. Applications will be available and initial distributions of funds will begin around the planned launch of June 2020.
Currently, the amount awarded to each student will be small due to only having $5,000 to allocate. Donations are welcome and encouraged and fundraising efforts will take place in the near future. Every donation ensures that these students will not be forgotten in the fight for access to success. The Invest In U Team firmly believes, “By investing in ourselves, we invest in a promising future.”
Invest in U is a non-profit organization whose mission is to assist LASC students in obtaining their educational goals by addressing inequalities in access to education in order to bridge the gap between students and their access to resources. In response to the pandemic, their grant supporter, BelieveinStudents.org, supplied seed funding to support LASC students by providing students with quick, hassle-free emergency financial assistance.
